IREON – The International Relations and Area Studies Gateway

IREON (International RElations and area studies ONline) is a free gateway for scholarly literature in the field of international relations and area studies.

Since May 2021, IREON is accessible in a beta version as a BOSS discovery system developed by the German Information Network for International Relations and Area Studies in cooperation with the Library Service Center for Baden-Württemberg (BSZ).

IREON is aimed at academics, researchers, decision-makers, policy-makers, business leaders, and anyone with a special interest in international relations or regional and area studies.

IREON contains more than 1 million references from the World Affairs Online database (WAO) and 4.4 million references from the ECONIS database produced by ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics.

IREON provides references and access to full texts on:

  • foreign and security policy
  • business administration, economics and business practice
  • international cooperation and development policy
  • European politics and transatlantic relations
  • regional and country studies worldwide
  • foreign cultural policy
  • climate, environment, energy

All references are indexed with the European Thesaurus on International Relations and Area Studies and/or the STW Standard Thesaurus on Economics.
