IREON – The International Relations and Area Studies Gateway

IREON (International RElations and area studies ONline) is a free gateway for scholarly literature in the field of international relations and area studies.

IREON is aimed at academics, researchers, and anyone with a special interest in international relations or regional and area studies – including journalists, decision-makers, business leaders and policy-makers.

IREON provides access to the World Affairs Online database (WAO), containing over 900,000 literature references. IREON is updated continuously. The multilingual European Thesaurus on International Relations and Area Studies – with about 8,200 descriptors – is the central resource for indexation and retrieval.

Search in IREON

You can carry out both simple and advanced searches. You can narrow the search to only include online resources. You can refine your search results with search filters.

You can also search subject and regional categories. Please select a category and click the magnifying glass symbol to get all search results related to this category. Click the folder symbols to expand subcategories.

You can print, save and export your search results.

Cooperation with German library networks

FIV - The German Information Network for International Relations and Area Studies is a member of the Southwest German Library Network (SWB). The World Affairs Online database (WAO) is produced in K10plus, the database used by SWB and GBV (i.e. the library network of Northern Germany). All articles, papers and monographs listed in WAO can be found in the online catalogues of these networks, as well as in the Karlsruhe Virtual Catalogue.
